If you attended a No Kings protest this weekend, you helped make history. Over seven million Americans took to the streets for the largest single-day protest in our country's history.
But protesting alone will not restore our democracy, which was highly flawed long before Trump took office. The No Kings Alliance will have a follow-up meeting tonight at 8 PM to discuss what is next for the national pro-democracy movement.
North Shore Progressives will continue to share actions recommended by Indivisible and other members of the No Kings Alliance. But we urge you to focus your attention on local activism that will protect our communities from Trump's fascist agenda and gross negligence.
Below are several time sensitive actions and important events scheduled over the next few days. Check out our Community Calendar for additional protests, meetings and events not listed below.
Salem Rent Stabilization Kick Off Meeting
Tonight 7-8 PM. Join Solidarity Rising, ECCO, Lynn United for Change, and other local groups to learn how you can help gather signatures to get Rent Control on the 2026 ballot! Additional details about the meeting can be found in yesterday's Solidarity Rising newsletter. Google Meeting link.
For additional background and actions, check out our coverage of the Rent Control ballot initiative campaign.
State House Rally in Support of Immigrants
Wednesday, October 22 at 11 AM. Join Massachusetts Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA) and other members of the Protecting Massachusetts Communities Coalition at a rally in support of our immigrant communities at the Massachusetts State House steps! Hear from advocates, union leaders and impacted members on how we can protect our communities from inhumane immigration enforcement.

After the rally, attendees will meet with their state legislators to urge them to pass two key bills:
- Immigrant Legal Defense Act (H.1954 / S.1127). For background on this bill and scripts for contacting state legislators check out the Progressive Massachusetts legislative toolkit. MIRA has additional background and resources here and here.
- Safe Communities Act (H.2580 / S.1681). For background on this bill and scripts for contacting state legislators check out the Progressive Massachusetts legislative toolkit. Additional resources are on the MIRA website.
Quick Action. Petitions are generally considered less impactful than personalized emails, phone calls or visits to elected officials. But if you have limited time, use this petition from MIRA to ask your legislator to cosponsor the Immigrant Legal Defense Act and the Safe Communities Act.
Protect Our Care Town Hall
Wednesday, October 22 at 5-6:30 PM. Join AFT Massachusetts, the North Shore Labor Council, and Raise Up Massachusetts for the North Shore Protect Our Care Town Hall! The meeting will be held at IUE-CWA Local 201, 112 Exchange St, #3 in Lynn. See Mobilize for additional info.
Did you know that 300,000+ people in MA risk losing healthcare & food assistance due to massive cuts to Medicaid and SNAP? MA faces massive cuts to healthcare and food assistance programs to fund the Big Ugly Bill’s tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations.
But we have a solution: Massachusetts can tap the state’s rainy day fund and pass the Corporate Fair Share legislation (H.3110 / S.2033) that would raise $1.5 billion to fund healthcare, food assistance, and other critical services in Massachusetts.
Corporate Fair Share Act Toolkits
If you can't make it to tomorrow's meeting, contact your state legislators to ask them to co-sponsor the Corporate Fair Share Act. Below are links to legislative toolkits that contain call scripts, sample emails, fact sheets, and additional resources to help you advocate for this important legislation.
In addition, read the recent testimony provided by MassBudget in support of the Corporate Fair Share Act.
Election Day is 2 Weeks Away
Local Elections Matter
Although a lot of progressive activists are focused on key national races, the stakes for local elections have never been higher. We encourage you to volunteer for local progressive candidates during this final stretch of their campaigns. Check out our coverage of municipal elections in the following towns:
Your support can make a big difference in the final weeks of a local campaign. Candidates will need donations as well as volunteers for canvassing, phone banking and other clerical jobs. Even a small donation or a few hours of volunteer work can make a difference.
Make a Voting Plan
Check your voter registration today and make a plan to vote in your upcoming municipal election. Here are key deadlines fast approaching:
- Before October 25: Check your voter registration. If you’re not registered, do so. If you need to register or correct any registration information on file, do it ASAP.
- Before 5 PM on October 28: If you intend to vote by mail, submit your application for a mail-in ballot by this deadline. If you have any questions, contact or visit the City Clerk's office for your town.
Elections Outside of Massachusetts
Although North Shore Progressives focuses primarily on local and state activism, we want to highlight volunteer opportunties for key campaigns and ballot initiatives outside of Massachusetts.
- Our Community Calendar has several volunteer shifts to support key elections in Pennsylvania and Virginia.

- California Democrats have organized several phone bank shifts to get out the vote to support for Proposition 50. Proposition 50 is a direct response to the power grab orchestrated by President Trump and Texas Republican leaders, who redrew Congressional district lines to gain five more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Passing Prop 50 is critical to winning back Congress during next year's midterms.

- Maine Democrats need our help to defeat a voter suppression referendum on the ballot this November. Swing Blue has organized phone bank shifts to empower Democrats to vote down this ballot initiative.

- In addition, Swing Left North Shore Cape Ann will be heading to Maine on November 1 and 2nd to canvas in person. Sign up here. To learn more about Swing Left's 2025 Election initiatives, attend their meeting this Thursday from 7-8 PM.
