Before signing off for a long weekend, I wanted to share some time-sensitive news and resources.
Revised Protest Schedule
- This week's Thursday Justice 4 All protest outside of the Burlington ICE field office has been cancelled.
- However, there will be a special Black Friday Burlington Awareness visibility standout along Mall Road (that leads to the Burlington Mall) throughout the day. Organizers had encouraged people to sign up in advance for shifts. Available shifts are mostly filled, but you can still join the protest anytime during the day.
- This week's standout at the Swampscott Monument is on Friday from 3-4 PM instead of tomorrow.
- Additional protests cancelled this week: De-ICE Hanscom (Friday), Topsfield (Friday), Middleton (Saturday), North Shore Visibility Brigade (Sunday).
- Protests will resume their usual schedules next week.
Special Rally on Monday
On December 1st from 9 AM to 12 PM, Essex County Community Organization (ECCO) will hold a Canopies of Compassion rally outside of the Burlington ICE field office to support Essau, a Tanzanian immigrant and member of the Zen Center North Shore who has lived in Massachusetts for more than a decade. To learn more about this action, see here and here.
Boycotts
Since 1992, activists have organized an anti-consumerist protest on the day after Thanksgiving. Dubbed "Buy Nothing Day", participants pledge to buy absolutely nothing for 24-hours as a counterpoint to the hyper-consumerism of Black Friday.
This year, there is an organized consumer blackout planned from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. Organizers of the We Ain't Buying It blackout are urging people to not buy anything from Target, Amazon or Home Depot throughout this period.

We encourage you to extend this boycott indefinitely and buy only from small and/or BIPOC owned businesses this holiday season.
Upcoming Trainings
Worcester Indivisible is offering virtual marshal training on December 9th or the 23rd from 7- 8 PM. The Friday De-ICE Hanscom protests need volunteer marshals, so you will have the opportunity to immediately apply the skills you learn in this training. It's also a matter of time before we need marshals here on the North Shore. Sign up for training here.

If you are considering running for office, apply to Mass Alliance's upcoming Grassroots Campaign Training in Boston. The Google doc says the application deadline has passed, but that isn't true. Mass Alliance's recent newsletter indicated that the application deadline is Friday, November 28th.
