Over the last several months Paramount Global has capitulated to Trump in numerous disturbing ways including:
- Terminating their DEI initiatives, claiming they had done so to conform with Trump's anti-DEI Executive Order that had banned DEI programs within the federal government and encouraged the private sector to follow suit.
- Settling a bogus lawsuit over an edited segment with VP Kamala Harris that aired before the 2024 Election. Even though Paramount had done nothing wrong, they still agreed to donate $16 million to the Trump Presidential Library.
- Cancelling The Late Show With Stephen Colbert days after the show's host had skewered Paramount's settlement with Trump. Colbert has been a longtime outspoken critic of the President, and Trump gleefully celebrated the show's cancellation.
Shari Redstone, former controlling shareholder of Paramount Global, maintains that her decisions had nothing to do with appeasing Trump, but these protestations strain credulity. Redstone had been awaiting approval from the FCC for the $8.4 billion acquisition of her family's struggling company by Skydance Media. Redstone will personally earn $530 million from the sale, including a $70 million severance package.
Paramount's new CEO David Ellison has already made decisions that will further appease Trump, including:
- Allegedly agreeing to provide Trump with $20 million worth of advertising, and public service announcements.
- Hiring former Trump staffer Kenneth Weinstein as an ombudsman tasked to "root out complaints of bias" at CBS. Weinstein was the former President and CEO of the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank who donated $20,000 to a PAC supporting Trump's 2024 presidential campaign.
